概要
写真を撮りたい思うその時は、何かが見えたと感じた時。私の中には常に常識とは別の眼が存在する。その眼はしぶとく居座り続け、30年という時間が過ぎても絶えて失せることはない。ファインダーを覗きながら「見えた」と思える瞬間に、私の欲望のすべては詰まってる。それは日常的な言葉では到底説明できることのない複雑なものだ。1枚の写真に別の視点が写ったならば、私の写真は成功となる。一見凡庸な対象であろうとも、私は構わず写真を撮る。要はどのように写ったのかが肝心なのだ。 人間の存在を疑い、写真を疑い、自分自身を疑う。その迷いの最中にいるからこそ、私は私の写真を得ることができる。
今回のタイトルは、You were always on my mind. (あなたはいつも私の心の中にいた) 「あなた」とは、自分の中にいる野性、または異形のこと。(酒井一貴）
The moment I feel like taking a photo is when I feel like I see something. There is always a perspective within me that is different from common sense. Those eyes remain stubbornly, never disappearing even after 30 years. The moment I look through the viewfinder and think I can see it, all of my desires are contained within. It is a complex thing that cannot possibly be explained in everyday terms. If a photograph captures a different perspective, then my photography is a success. I don’t mind taking photographs of subjects that may seem ordinary at first glance. The important thing is what kind of photo it appears in. I doubt the existence of humans, I doubt photography, I doubt myself. It is in the midst of this uncertainty that I am able to hold my photographs.
The title of this exhibition is “You were always on my mind”. ‘You’ refers to one’s own inner wildness and strange existence. -Kazutaka Sakai
