概要

ウォルター・パジェット

1945年ノースカロライナ州生まれ。
クレムソン大学で建築を学び、その後フロリダ州立大学で美術を専攻、彫刻の分野で美術学士号と美術修士号を取得。
1969年～2004年まで35年間フロリダ州やオレゴン州の教育機関で美術教員として教鞭をとり、現在も後進の育成を行っている。
’83～’84年には、日本木版画の制作と研究を目的としたサヴァティカル休暇を取得し、東海道を自転車で2ヶ月間横断し「東海道五十三次」を調査。
’78年～’84年ロバート・マックレーン氏に師事。
’85年黒崎彰氏のワークショップに参加。
’96年 ユージーン市/静岡県掛川市、2009年 メンドシーノ郡/大町市美麻地区姉妹都市訪問の名誉代表。
2度の日本訪問の中で塩の道祭（日本アルプス）に参加、中山道・木曽街道地域を探索。
日本を含む世界各国を旅し制作を続けている。
アメリカ合衆国や海外で展示、受賞、収集、多数。

Walt Padgett BRIEF HISTORY

1945 born North Carolina; ’45- ’63/ Georgia.
1963-’69 university education– Architecture, Fine Arts–BFA, MFA sculpture.
1969-2004 professional teaching– public school, university/ Florida;
community college, university/ Oregon.
1976 first woodcuts; ’78- ’83 Japanese woodblock printmaking/ Robert McClain;
1983 sabbatical intensive study/ Yoshida Hanga Academy; 1984 two-month bicycle-camped Japan’s historic Tokaido; 1985 workshop/ Akira Kurosaki; ongoing woodblock print production–present.
1985-2025 lecturer “Bicycling Japan’s Tokaido,” “Japanese Woodblock Printmaking,” demonstrated woodblock process, offering workshops.
1996 honorary delegate– Eugene/Kakegawa Sister City visitation; 2006 Japan travel.
2009 honorary delegate– Mendocino/Miasa-Omachi Sister City visitation; privately investigated the Kisokaido.
2019 participated Salt Road Festival/ Japan Alps; explored Nakasendo/ Kisokaido area.
1970- 2025 extensive travel U.S.A., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium.

Widely exhibited, awarded & collected throughout the U.S.A. and abroad,
Mr. Padgett is considered one of America’s top sosaku-hanga printmakers,
truly a Pacific Rim artist.
