概要
今月のスピーカーは、竹を用いた立体彫刻を制作する現代美術家 HABURI です。HABURI は自身の作品を紹介するとともに、作品における「Competition（競争）」というテーマについてお話しします。また、参加者の皆さんと一緒に竹を使ったインタラクティブなアクティビティも行います。
HABURI は、素材・身体・構造の関係を軸に立体・インスタレーションを制作するアーティストです。近年は竹を主素材として制作を行っています。
2020年、東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科油画専攻修士課程修了。現在は京都·HAPS スタジオを拠点に、竹を主素材とした立体作品やインスタレーションを制作しています。2025年、「Kyoto Art for Tomorrow 京都府新鋭選抜展」にて読売新聞賞を受賞しました。
会場について
今回のイベントパートナーは、京都市を拠点にアーティストの活動を支援する Higashiyama Artist Placement Service（HAPS） です。 会場は、かつて小学校の校舎だった建物をアーティストの制作拠点として活用している HAPS Studio です。 当日は、HAPSスタッフより施設や活動についてのご紹介も予定しています。
ご参加にあたって 会場は一般公開されていないため、ご参加には事前申込みが必要です。 当日は受付にて参加登録を確認いたしますので、お申込みをお忘れのないようお願いいたします。 また、会場は少し分かりにくいため、千本通側の入口よりお越しください。
アクティビティについて
テーブルには、あらかじめさまざまな形に曲げられた竹ひごが用意されています。参加者は、熱を加えて曲げた竹ひご5本と、まっすぐな竹ひご5本、合計10本を選びます。すべて長さや太さはほぼ同じです。これらの竹ひごを使い、小さな構造を編みながら、異なる形どうしの張力や、素材と自分の手の力とのあいだで生まれる関係を体験していきます。正解はありません。構造が自分にとって自然なバランスに達したと感じたところで手を止め、その形を固定して完成とします。
About the speaker
Haburi is an artist working with sculpture and installation, focusing on the relationship between material, body, and structure. In recent years, he has primarily worked with bamboo.
He received his MFA in Oil Painting from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2020. He is currently based at HAPS Studio in Kyoto. In 2025, he received the Yomiuri Shimbun Prize at Kyoto Art for Tomorrow.

The Higashiyama Artists Placement Service (HAPS) is an organization that conducts programs to provide comprehensive support—covering residence, production, and presentation—for young artists, aiming to create an environment where they can live and sustain their creative activities within Kyoto City.

Our speaker this month will be Haburi, a contemporary artist creating three dimensional bamboo sculptures. He will show us his work, discuss his thoughts on the theme, and lead an interactive activity for attendees using bamboo.
Our event partner will be Higashiyama Artist Placement Service (HAPS), a program that supports artists in Kyoto City. We will be gathering at the HAPS Studio, a former elementary school classroom building turned into an artist studio space. We will hear from a HAPS Staff Member who will introduce the space.
Additional Details: Advance registration is necessary to attend the event, since this venue is not open to the public. We will be checking registration at the entrance, so please do not forget to register. The location can be difficult to find, so please enter on the Senbon-Dori Side.
Our Interactive Activity
Different pre-bent bamboo strips will be placed on the table. Each participant chooses 10 bamboo strips: 5 pre-bent into different shapes using a candle, and 5 straight strips. All are similar in length and thickness. Using these 10 strips, weave a structure while exploring the tension between different forms, and the interaction between the material and the force of your hands. When you feel the form has reached the right moment, stop and fix it in place as your final structure.
