セーファースペースポリシー

概要
第61回ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ国際美術展2026に共同作品とソロ作品とで出展する嶋田美子とブブ・ド・ラ・マドレーヌは、参加アーティストおよびキュレーターからの緊急呼びかけ書※ に署名しました。この書簡は、イスラエル館のアルセナーレへの例外的な移転決定に抗議し、ビエンナーレに対してイスラエル・ロシア・アメリカの公式代表団の排除を求めるものです。また「中立」を標榜しながら戦争犯罪国の参加を認めることは中立ではないと明確に述べています。
本企画は京都芸術センターとの共催事業、KACパートナーシップ・プログラム2026『芸術の権力 〜アートウォッシングから考えるアートの責任〜』のプレイベントです。今回はブブさんをゲストに迎え、この署名に至る経緯と現在の状況をお話しいただきます。そして、本企画のテーマ「アートウォッシング、文化的プロパガンダ、芸術実践における倫理的立場」と接続しながら、ともに話し合う場をつくります。

ゲストプロフィール
ブブ・ド・ラ・マドレーヌ
1961年大阪生まれ。1985年京都市立芸術大学美術学部美術科構想設計専攻卒業・芸術学士。1991年よりダムタイプで活動しダムタイプのパフォーマンス《S/N》(1994年初演)に出演。その後、ソロまたは国内外のアーティストと共同で、絵画、立体、映像、パフォーマンスなどの制作、文章の執筆を行う。同時にHIV／エイズと共に生きる人やセックスワーカー、セクシュアルマイノリティや女性の健康や人権についての市民運動に携わる。共著に「セックスワーク・スタディーズー当事者視点で考える性と労働」（SWASH編、日本評論社刊、2018年）など。近作インスタレーション「人魚の領土−旗と内臓」（2022年）は国立国際美術館に収蔵された。

阿児つばさ・遠藤リョウノスケ・益田さちが京都を拠点に立ち上げたコレクティブ。芸術が社会的不正義や権力構造にどのように関与してきたかを問い続ける。「中立ではなく、倫理的立場を明示する芸術実践」を掲げ、来場者・アーティスト・研究者・文化施設運営者が立場を超えて議論できるセーファースペースの構築を実践する。

だらだらとお茶やお菓子を食べながら「世界を股にかける」アーティスト、ブブさんへの質問を一緒に考える、アフタートークのためのビフォートーク！
もちろんセーファースペースについても考え、実践する場です。

Event Description｜
Artists Yoshiko Shimada and Bubu de la Madeleine, who will present both a collaborative work and individual works at the 61st Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition 2026, have signed an emergency appeal issued by participating artists and curators.*
The letter protests the exceptional relocation of the Israeli Pavilion to the Arsenale and calls on the Biennale to exclude the official representations of Israel, Russia, and the United States. It also states that claiming “neutrality” while allowing the participation of states engaged in war crimes is not neutrality.
This event is a pre-program of The “Power” of Art -Rethinking the responsibility of art through artwashing-, part of the Kyoto Art Center Partnership Program 2026, co-organized with Kyoto Art Center.This time, BuBu will speak about the background of the appeal and the current situation, followed by a discussion connecting to the program’s themes: artwashing, cultural propaganda, and ethical positions in artistic practice.

Guest Profile｜
BuBu de la Madeleine
Born in Osaka in 1961. Graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts in 1985 with a BFA in Conceptual Design. Since 1991, BuBu has been active with Dumb Type, performing in their work S/N (premiered in 1994). BuBu’s practice spans painting, sculpture, video, performance, and writing, working both solo and in collaboration with artists in Japan and internationally. Alongside artistic practice, BuBu has been involved in civic movements supporting people living with HIV/AIDS, sex workers, sexual minorities, and women’s health and rights. Co-author of Sex Work Studies: Thinking about Sex and Labor from the Perspective of Those Involved (SWASH, Nihon Hyoronsha, 2018). The recent installation Territory of the Mermaid – Flags and Entrails (2022) is in the collection of the National Museum of Art, Osaka.

Unwashed Art Club (UAC)
Unwashed Art Club (UAC) is a Kyoto based collective of three art workers; Tsubasa Ako, Ryonosuke Endo, and Sachi Masuda. The group examines the power structures of art and its relation to social injustices, while proposing artistic practices that do not aim to be “neutral.” UAC aims to establish a safer space for people including artists, researchers, and workers of cultural institutions to have constructive conversations beyond their background or political stance.

📣 Pre-Pre Event: Let’s Come Up with Questions for BuBu! 📣
Have you ever had lots of questions in mind during an artist talk, but couldn’t quite put them into words—and ended up not asking anything?
This is a relaxed “before-talk” for the after-talk: we’ll hang out with tea and snacks and come up with questions together for BuBu, an artist working across the globe. We’ll also think about and practice creating a safer space.
