Overview
Yonemura Yuto creates spatial compositions that primarily utilize sculptures, presenting them as installation works. He states that he is attentive to imperfection in sculpture due to weakness or failure, rather than strength, grandeur and sublimity that emphasize masculinity in many works of sculpture. Contained in each are deeply personal stories and various emotions such as pain, awe, longing, and helplessness. Deformed parts of a sculpted human body are arranged in a haphazard manner, the majestic unity of a statue bearing resemblance to Greek sculpture is ruined, and the sublime idea melts away. Nevertheless, the installation, composed of self-made tools and a workbench together with everyday objects, unquestionably conveys the reality of the present age. Visitors are invited to experience Yonemura’s experimental approach to sculpture, which has accumulated through a process of trial and error accompanied by a sense of earnestness.Yonemura Yuto
Artist. Born in Osaka in 1996. Yonemura Yuto graduated with a degree in Fine Arts and Crafts from the Integrated Arts Course at Kyoto University of Art and Design (now Kyoto University of the Arts) in 2019. Recent exhibitions include the outdoor sculpture Agarumans (Best Friend) (Grand Front Osaka, 2021), solo exhibition Barororm Squad (Neutral, Kyoto, 2022), children’s project Gattai Chojin Agaruman Sticker Rally (Play! Theatre in Summer 2022, Rohm Theatre Kyoto, 2022), and two-person show NSFS / Endless Lorelei (EUKARYOTE, Tokyo, 2023).
