Artist Statement:
I am very pleased to present my first exhibition in Japan at the Kyoto Museum of Photography. As a photographer and artist, my passion lies in capturing brief moments in nature to tell sensitive visual stories. Here in Kyoto, I showcase successive photographic series’ (and a few stand-alone images) that were photographed pre and post Covid lockdown. Physical and natural movements surrounding a rock, a tree (in Van Gogh’s village of Auvers-sur-Oise) and a river have been captured in these photos which are influenced by the Impressionist and Pictorialism art movements as well as by the music of Erik Satie, YMO and David Sylvian.
I tend to photograph in both black & white and color to build an expressive mood and often incorporate creative filters to achieve my desired effect. Passionate about the printing process as an artform unto itself, I am pleased to print these photographs on Awagami’s expressive ‘AIJP’ washi papers.
I thank you for visiting and sharing this exhibition / this experience……on your way to happiness.
