Overview

Celebrating the 130th anniversary of Insho Domoto’s birth, our museum holds a memorial exhibition, divided into two parts (Part I & Part II), in order to retrace Insho’s creative art practice.
The current exhibition, as the Part I (*) , presents fascinating paintings produced by Insho. It focuses on ten works ranked by the visitors as the top ten from our collection, along with the works which are shown in this museum for the first time.
In addition, it shows precious works altogether which have been rarely seen in Kyoto such as: “The Guardian Deity of the Battleship Yamato” that has survived turbulence under World War II- Pacific Theatre, and “Holding hands (Curtains Sketch of World Expo Hall) ” whish Insho painted with the hope of the bright future on the occasion of the World Exposition held for the first time in Japan. This exhibition pursues the charm of Insho’s works, which is still sparkling after long periods of time.
(*) The Part II will be held from December 3rd 2021 to March 21st 2022. It will focus on Insho’s paintings as well as decorative art which adds color to things and spaces.
