Artist profile
Julien Levy
Julien Levy was born in Paris, and studied philosophy in France. Later, as a musician, he travels around the world with his band within the hardcore punk scene. While touring, he shoots his first photography series and films. He then moves to New York City.
Over there, he intensifies his work as a writer, screenwriter and director. His work still adopts a do-it-yourself and highly independent method, deeply rooted in radical subcultures. Julien Levy now shares his time between Tokyo and Paris. He directed many fiction films and music videos, as well as films for Chanel, Miu Miu, Harper’s Bazaar, etc., and collaborated with talents such as Kiko Mizuhara, Nana Komastu, Astrid Bergès Frisbey, Virginie Ledoyen, Clémence Poésy, Bella Hadid, Nora Zehetner, Tom Lipinski, Finn Wittrock, Nick Cave, Ryohei Shima, etc. He published 3 photography books. He wrote and directed more than fifteen works of fiction.
