Description

“Series Title Under Consideration” (1) “Open and Close, Close and Open, Open and Fold, Fold and Unfold: (Two-Hour Lecture On) Japanese Modern and Contemporary Art”
For the tenth Open Research Program, Parasophia: Kyoto International Festival of Contemporary Culture 2015 will be inviting the artist Tatsuo Majima to deliver a series of four lectures over the course of six months, from July 2014 to January 2015. Majima is scheduled to be announced as one of the artists participating in Parasophia: Kyoto International Festival of Contemporary Culture 2015.
The first lecture, “Open and Close, Close and Open, Open and Fold, Fold and Unfold: (Two-Hour Lecture On) Japanese Modern and Contemporary Art,” will be based on Majima’s “DSN” lecture series at blanClass in Yokohama (“Dōshite, sonnanimo, nashonaru nanoka” [loosely translates as “Why so nationalistic?” or “Why so domestic?”], series of 12 lectures, 2013–14). Majima will present a further developed discussion of Japanese modern and contemporary art, grounded in his ongoing contemplation of “national” modern and contemporary art, in terms of both the people and the state.
