Description

In summer of 1913, Tsuguharu Fujita (LEONARD = tsuguharu Fujita, 1886-1968) wanted to be painter and aimed at France by ship alone. We adapt ourselves to life in France immediately, and Fujita who arrived at Paris via Marseille comes to attract attention as artist. Fujita finds original expression while many artists who came over from foreign country playing an active part in Paris at the time, and being close to painter friends of modiriani and others, and friend doing, and being deep, and devoting itself to Henri Rousseau. We visit France, and, on November 14, 1913 three months later, Fujita visits preview of the eleventh Salon dotonnu held in Grand Pare of Paris with Riichiro Kawashima of friend and invites important opportunity to stand, and to think about position as artist. We reached while we were strongly aware of being Japanese in the foreign ground and explored the West and Oriental fusion though we acquired firm originality of “Grand fonds buran” (the milky groundwork) that made full use of thin, delicate sumi line on smooth white ground coating. Original matter of drawn nude woman and cat was praised in such a how to depict with “the splendid milky ground” and received high evaluation.
We focus at time before Fujita leaving for the visit to France shitenochi Latin United States from 1913 through 1931, and book exhibition exhibits work collected from France and various parts of Japan. We put works of artists who shared pass Kyn and Kissling rucksack, Laurencin and others Fujita and the times together and, with trace until favorite child “Fujita” birth of Ecole de Paris, display.
