This spring, share studio”Vostok” was started in the Nishijin area of Kyoto.
This studio is a renovated “MACHIYA” by BASEMENT KYOTO, the traditional architecture juxtaposed with the fresh interior creates an unusual residence space.
“Vostok” is derived from the name of the spacecraft, launched in the early 1960’s, that succeeded in becoming the first manned space flight. In Russian it means “East”, and so we bring to that meaning the determination to become a base of active work from Japan, the country of the Far East, to the world.
We are artists active in different media, such as Saijo (ceramic), Sasaoka (video), Tanaka (painting), Mizuki (photograph), Yazu (sculpture) and we gather together and share a variety of art in the space.
At the open studio, we will show our studio and residence space, and also exhibit and sell our work.
