Yoshitoshi Tsukioka (1839-1892) is ukiyoe artist who played an active part in the times to suddenly change from Edo to the Meiji era.
Because it is illustrator who was successful most in those days when demand for ukiyoe print was lost, it is called “the last ukiyoe artist” and continues attracting people.
Book exhibition is retrospective show that covered all masterpieces before the early days in springtime of youth reaching by work of seiisei*shishozo known as collection in Japan’s leading springtime of youth in later years. In springtime of youth when we became a disciple of Kuniyoshi Utagawa and learned ukiyoe print, we performed study of Western painting to change of the times and showed modern sense in portraiture and composition. It is only thing which is surprised even if we see the bold composition, bright color, acrobatic pose of person with modern eyes. By historical painting, picture scroll, approximately 130 points of wide genre including painting of beauties, please thoroughly enjoy the good skill of springtime of youth and rich imagination, sense of prominent screen constitution.
