Description

It is a great pleasure to invite you to the exhibition “Materiality-Immateriality Design & Innovation” held at kyoto ddd gallery.
In tribute to the 30th anniversary of the exhibition led by Jean-François Lyotard, «Les Immatériaux» (Centre Pompidou, 1985), this exhibition looks at the possibilities offered by the concept of materiality and immateriality through design, creation and innovation. It explores multiple forms of creation and design born out of encounter and confrontation of material and immaterial worlds in 4 different areas: new media, sensoriality, 3D modeling and database.
The exhibition has also been designated as “France-Japan Innovation Year” project and officially participates in “Nuit Blanche Kyoto 2016”.

■Concept

In tribute to the 30th anniversary of the exhibition led by Jean-François Lyotard, «Les Immatériaux» (Centre Pompidou, 1985), this exhibition is dedicated to design and innovation, to materiality and immateriality. The exploration, initiated 30 years ago, will be pursued in following 4 areas:
– New media / questioning the place of spectator in relation to devices
– Sensoriality / a sensory experience dedicated to the 5 senses
– 3D Modeling / exploration of multiple variables and flexibility in production processes
– Database / as source of renewal: with dialogue between preservation and state-of-the-art research for material innovation.
This confrontation between the “material” and “immaterial” world will focus on forms of what creating and innovating mean.
